[Learn Japanese] Lesson 4-Who is this?
Question: 〜Dare desuka? 〜だれですか？
Key things to remember:
Japanese sentence structure usually start with Subject and end with the Verb. No changes to this order in the Question form.
“KA” is added after “desu” to make the sentence a Question form.
Same as English pronunciation, Ka will end with little higher note.
Above are same from lesson 3. Only thing it changes for this lesson is simply replace the word from Lesson 3 with Who/Why/Where words in Japanese just like how you have done with What (naniなに)
Let’s start with the lesson 3 sentence.
Kore Wa Takoyaki desu ka?
これはたこやきですか？
Is this a Takoyaki?
Kore wa Nann desuka?
これはなんですか？
What is this?
Do you remember this?
WHO/WHY/WHERE is this?
Now, all you have to do is to replace “What” with “Who or why”.
WHO=dare (だれ・誰）
WHY=naze/nannde (なぜ・なんで）
WHERE=doko (どこ）
Kore wa Dare desuka?
これはだれですか？
Who is this?
*you would probably not use this in front of the person. Could be looking at picture or TV screen.
usually used when the person is not with you.
Kore wa Naze desuka?
これはなぜですか？
Why is this?
*This may not used often as well, but let’s say if you are looking at something magical, and asking why?
Koko wa Doko desuka?
ここはどこですか？
Where is here? (or where are we?)

Afuri Ramen wa doko desuka?
アフリラーメンはどこですか？
Who is George Bush?
George Bush wa dare desuka?
ジョージブッシュはだれですか？
